Thoughts During Conditioning

Thoughts During Conditioning

I have asked some of my teammates what goes through their head during conditioning.  Everyone's responses were almost identical. Here is a list of common thoughts athletes have during the tough mental toughness exercise:

  • WHY can't I sleep in?
  • The sun is not up yet, why am I up?
  • Is this necessary?
  • How many are we doing?
  • I'm going back to sleep after this
  • Is it too cold for us to be out here?
  • I will survive
  • I'm going to become a N.A.R.P. (non athlete regular person) that seems easier
  • Am I dying?
  • I can't breathe
  • What should I eat for breakfast?
  • Should I nap or study?
  • I should probably shower before class
  • I can do anything for an hour
  • Will this actually help me?
  • Wow I should ice bath
  • Am I going to throw up? Where's the trash?

  • Do I fake an injury?
  • Just one more
  • Through the nose
  • Just breathe
  • Pump your arms
  • Do I taste blood?
  • I am going to be out of shape when I graduate
  • I wonder what other teams do for conditioning?
  • The smell of the football field makes me nauseous
  • Who didn't give a 100%?
  • I can't feel my legs
  • Would it be okay to collapse?
  • My tears are freezing
  • Half gassers, nope.
  • I hope next weeks workout is different
  • Thank goodness that's over
